Why this collection caught my attention

My academic journey, from studying Communications at Ashland University to earning my degree in Theology at Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary, has shaped the way I understand people, beliefs, and the world around me. Over the years, I have developed a deeper interest in philosophy and psychology, particularly in how human experiences influence our thoughts, behaviors, and understanding of life. These interests have encouraged me to question, reflect, and look beyond the surface of things. That is precisely why Đào Hồng Tử’s Lửa Cháy Dưới Cằm Trời captured my attention. The collection explores questions about humanity, faith, memory, and existence, subjects that connect naturally with both my academic background and personal curiosity.

Three reflections from my reading

Memory and identity. Psychology encourages us to examine how experience influences our understanding of ourselves. The collection’s images of memory and history made me consider that connection.

Faith and inquiry. Philosophy invites questions about what we believe we know. I appreciated the space the poetry makes for questioning without demanding simple answers.

Humanity and renewal. Fire can suggest destruction, but also change and the possibility of beginning again. That tension stayed with me after reading.

Some passages are layered and challenging. For me, that complexity became part of the reading experience: an invitation to return, reflect, and notice something new.
